Overview

Applied artificial intelligence develops your ability to understand, evaluate and apply artificial intelligence tools, systems and workflows in real-world contexts. You will learn how artificial intelligence is shaped by data, design choices, research directions, societal impacts and practical constraints, while building capability to use AI responsibly across diverse application areas.

The major combines broad AI literacy with applied development and contextual judgement. You will explore artificial intelligence concepts and tools, responsible data use, practical AI application development, AI applications in context, AI research and futures, perception systems, agentic and distributed AI, and conversational AI. Together, these studies develop your ability to identify appropriate AI use cases, prototype and evaluate AI-enabled solutions, interpret evidence, and communicate opportunities, risks and limitations to stakeholders.

This major prepares you for roles involving AI application development, AI product and solution support, business and organisational AI adoption, responsible AI practice, AI-enabled process improvement, conversational systems, perception-enabled applications and emerging roles that require practical AI fluency across technical and non-technical contexts.

Availability
Applied artificial intelligence is listed in C2000 Bachelor of Information Technology at Clayton as a major.

Note: This major is also offered at Malaysia campus to provide students with the opportunity to pursue studies in this area.
