Overview
The Popular music specialisation in the Bachelor of Music develops musicians, performers and creators of the future. In addition to developing practical performance skills and stagecraft, you will acquire a broad range of creative skills, including songwriting and music production, to support the creation of contemporary music that is informed by any combination of popular music styles. Across the program, you will develop foundational instrumental or vocal techniques and self-directed practice across diverse musical styles, apply these skills in both solo and ensemble performance contexts through songwriting, live performance and recording environments. You will have the opportunity to conceptualise and create a live performance and recording project under the guidance of expert teachers within your chosen musical style and/or context. This specialisation not only connects you with current industry practices and practitioners, but also encourages the creation of new music, aligning with the school’s focus on developing the future of Australian contemporary popular music.
