Requisite map

Overview

Robotics and mechatronics engineering combines mechanical engineering, computing and electronics to create functional smart products. You will acquire skills, knowledge and experience in electrical systems; mechanics; systems engineering; sensors and artificial perception; thermo-fluids and power systems; analogue electronics; robotics; control systems; and manufacturing.

In this specialisation, you will have the opportunity to also pursue a minor in an engineering discipline that complements robotics and mechatronics engineering.

Availability
Robotics and mechatronics engineering is listed in E3001 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Clayton and Malaysia as an undergraduate specialisation.

Structure

Parts C. and D. Robotics and mechatronics engineering knowledge, application and professional practice108 credit points
You must complete the following core robotics and mechatronics engineering units and the units in either the artificial intelligence stream or automation stream.
NOTE: If you completed either core units ECE2071 or ECE2072 as a First Year technical elective, you must replace the core with another unit at the same level or higher from the robotics and mechatronics engineering technical electives list.
Part E. Elective study - Specialisation36 credit points

Studying single degree engineering

36 credit points
In single degree engineering, you must complete 36 credit points of elective study after Year 1. In Year 2, the 12 points of electives can be level 1, 2 or 3 units from engineering or other faculties.
In Years 3 and 4, the 24 points of electives must be level 3, 4 or 5 units and from your engineering specialisation technical electives list.
Electives must be completed at the required unit level to satisfy the course requirements. You may also use the elective study to complete an engineering minor that will complement your specialisation (This option is available only in Clayton).

Robotics and mechatronics engineering technical electives

36 credit points
Studying in Clayton: You may consider other engineering technical units chosen from the engineering minors, subject to meeting the unit prerequisite and/or co-requisite rules.
Studying in Malaysia: You may consider other engineering technical units with approval from the School of Engineering and subject to meeting the unit prerequisite and/or co-requisite rules.
NOTE 1: Please refer to the information below for specific units that are required for the local professional accreditation in Malaysia.
NOTE 2: To enrol in a level 5 unit listed below, you must obtain a weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 or above at the conclusion of level 3 and be in your final year.

Studying in Malaysia - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

12 credit points
You must complete [(ECE3051 OR MEC3416) AND TRC4802] to satisfy the requirements of the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia (EAC) for accreditation in Malaysia.

Studying a double degree with engineering

The 36 credit points of specialisation engineering technical electives normally required in the single degree have been credited towards the double degree structure and therefore not a requirement in the double degree courses.

Courses that offer it

Notes

You must satisfy the continuous professional development or industrial training required to complete the course. See ENG0001 (for Clayton) or ENG0002 (for Malaysia).
