Notes

Program requirements

All graduate research students are required to complete compulsory modules as part of their enrolment, including:

  • Monash Graduate Research Induction (online)
  • Research Integrity (online)
  • Respectful Research at Monash (online)
  • Cultural Foundations: Building your knowledge of Australia's First Peoples (online)
  • Faculty and School inductions
  • A coursework component

In addition, students may be required to undertake occupational health and safety training, additional project specific research ethics training, or other professional and skills development as relevant to their research project.

PhD students enrolled in this program must complete up to two coursework units, assessed at enrolment and tailored to your existing qualifications and experience.

Coursework component

In year 1 students must complete one unit from the following, as required:

  • TRM6001 – Introduction to clinical trials
  • TRM6002 – Translational research: Pathways to the clinic
  • TRM6006 – Clinical and translational bioinformatics
  • TRM6007 – Translational research and medicine in metabolic disorders
  • TRM6008 - Translational Medicine
  • MPH6041 – Introductory biostatistics
  • MAP6001 – Industry research internship

By the end of year 2, students must complete a second unit from the list above OR have secured their internship (for MAP6001 - a signed Letter of Intent/Contract of Agreement will need to be provided). Students can make a case to their Graduate Research Coordinator if a variation to these timings is required. In addition, students can make a case to their Graduate Research Coordinator if they wish to undertake a unit at Master’s level or above that is highly relevant to their research project and which is offered outside of the program. Such requests will also be assessed on a case by case basis. Note, units taken outside of the Translational Research Coursework Program may incur fees, which will differ depending on whether students are domestic or international.
