Overview
This double degree course combines the deep focus of the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
The Bachelor of Commerce is designed to provide you with the analytical, conceptual and quantitative skills for a wide range of careers in decision making, leadership and management, policy development, and problem solving in the professions, in addition to the corporate and public sectors.
Graduates of this course are highly valued for their training in quantitative skills and techniques which are well suited for employment in both Australia and overseas.
The course begins with an introduction to core commerce discipline principles, and then offers the choice to study a major in different commerce disciplines, as well as the opportunity to study overseas or undertake an internship.
The Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (BPPE) is an innovative degree that equips graduates with the intellectual and practical skills necessary to comprehend and navigate the changing world in the 21st century. Graduates will finish their BPPE having mastered the main ideas shaping our understanding of the social world. They will move beyond existing frameworks by studying at the creative intersections between politics, philosophy and economics. This interdisciplinary grounding will culminate in practical, skills-based applications of the conceptual tools provided by the BPPE to produce graduates ready for the challenges and possibilities of the century ahead.

If you intend to take the Accounting major in the Bachelor of Commerce, you need complete the requirements of the course as though you are enrolled in the single Commerce degree, to ensure you meet the requirements for the professional accounting body.
ECC1000 is a core unit for both single degrees. It will need to be replaced in the Commerce degree by a 6 credit point Economics elective at any level.
You can enrich your degree to hone your academic and professional skills with a range of Flagship Rich Educational Experiences (FREE), including the Research, Experimentation and Discovery, Monash Innovation Guarantee, Global Immersion Guarantee and Volunteering. These flagship rich educational experience units may be credited in place of your replacement units. There are both 6 and 12 credit point unit options available.

If you are completing the Accounting major as part of your double degree, please note ECX2953 is required for professional accreditation and can be completed in Part A instead of ECC1000, and you will not be required to complete ECC1100.
You are not permitted to take the Economics major or minor under the Bachelor of Commerce of this double degree.

Bachelor of Commerce
The Bachelor of Commerce is a comprehensive course, structured in three equal parts. In the double degree course you complete the following two parts:
Part A. Commerce specified study
This will provide you with a broad foundation for your study of commerce and expose you to several commerce disciplines. This will contribute breadth to your knowledge of commerce and address the graduate course outcomes. It will also give you the opportunity to learn more about each discipline before finalising your choice of major.
Part B. Commerce listed major
This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise in one discipline area. You will develop, apply and communicate an advanced level of understanding of the concepts and theoretical frameworks that constitute the knowledge base of your major area of study.
Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics
The Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics course develops through two themes, which will provide you with interdisciplinary approaches to addressing the key challenges facing the global community and in-depth expertise in your specialised area of study to enable you to effect change and develop the necessary knowledge and skills to be innovative leaders in responding to political, philosophical and economic challenges.
Part A. Analysis, strategy and leadership
You will develop a foundational understanding of politics, philosophy and economics as a complex phenomenon, its social, economic and political impact, and the advantages and limitations associated with different strategies to address it and the perspectives you need to make a real impact.
Part B. Politics, philosophy and economics (PPE) specialist knowledge
These units will provide in-depth knowledge of the specific facet of PPE that comprises your specialisation, providing you with the practical and theoretical skills and knowledge needed to critically analyse, communicate and apply your disciplinary knowledge.

Students must complete 192 points, of which 96 points from the Bachelor of Commerce (including all the requirements in Part A and B for the single degree) and 96 points are from the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (including all the requirements in Part A and B for the single degree).
You will complete your Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics specialisation and one major in the Bachelor of Commerce. Where you have space in your degree you may complete a second major with no more than two units contributing towards both of your chosen majors or towards both a major and the specialisation.

Applicants will require a minimum 70% average to be considered for selection. Preference will be given to applicants whose prior studies are related to the course. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not be sufficient to meet admission requirements.
