The double degree in Master of Business Management and Master of Human Resource Management provides emerging and established professionals with advanced business knowledge combined with human resources skills for organisational success. The Master of Business Management is an integrated and practical introduction to the practice of business management in a contemporary, dynamic and digital context. In this degree, you will learn how organisations can thrive in the context of digital disruption, transformation and accelerating technological change. Combined with the Master of Human Resource Management where you will build skills and knowledge to adapt people management practices, address sustainability issues, technology and ethical questions alongside the human element of organisational success. With its part-time and online delivery, you can also fit study around your busy work and family commitments.

In the Master of Business Management, a broad-based business degree, you will develop core business management knowledge and skills, while also gaining the foundation of business leadership knowledge aligned to contemporary employability criteria. As part of the degree, you will also have the opportunity to develop your professional presence and behavioural attributes to equip you for a managerial career and apply the latest thinking and models for implementing transformational change. Ultimately, you will apply all of the skills you have developed by completing industry projects in a sector or business of your choice.

You must complete 48 credit points from the Master of Business Management, comprising all the requirements of Part A and Part C.
Human Resource Management component48 credit points
You must complete 48 credit points from the Master of Human Resource Management comprising all the requirements of Part A, Part B and one elective unit from Part C.

Master of Business Management

This course is structured in three parts Part A. Core studies, Part B. Discipline studies, and Part C. Application studies. In this double degree you will complete:

Part A. Core studies

These studies will introduce you to business management practice at an advanced graduate level. They are designed to extend your ability to manage the organisation while building on existing professional work experience.

Part C. Application studies

The focus of these studies is professional and project work that can contribute to a portfolio of professional development.

Master of Human Resource Management

This course is structured in three parts. Part A. Core studies, Part B. Discipline studies and Part C. Application studies. In this double degree you will complete:

Part A. Core studies

These units provide coverage of theories, models and frameworks to apply to contemporary practice of human resource management.  They are designed to introduce foundational knowledge of key human resource management activities.  Employing critical analysis, reflection and  application to professional practice, each unit examines contemporary HRM practice and the challenges facing organisations and their workforce.

Part B. Discipline studies

The focus of these units is to deepen and extend understanding and practice of contemporary human resource management.  They are designed to provide advanced knowledge of complex human resource management  challenges and practical approaches to engage with them effectively.  Employing critical analysis, reflection and  application to professional practice, each unit examines advanced HRM practice and strategic opportunities facing organisations and their workforce.

Part C. Application studies

The focus of these units provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge to their professional practice. The units feature professional development, application of HRM knowledge in practice and opportunities for students to direct their learning to thrive and maintain currency in an uncertain business environment.

You must complete 96 credit points, of which 48 credit points are from the Master of Business Management (including all the requirements in Part A and Part C for the single degree) and 48 credit points from the Master of Human Resource Management (including all of the requirements in Part A and Part B, and six credit points from Part C for the single degree).

Master of Business Management Component (48 credit points)

Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated.

Part C. Application studies (24 credit points)

  • LEO5114 Global challenge

Master of Human Resource Management Component (48 credit points)

Part A. Core studies (24 credit points)

You must complete the following four units:

  • MGO5100 People and change
  • MGO5110 Sustainability and performance in human resource management
  • MGO5120 Ethics and legal issues in human resource management
  • MGO5130 Diversity and inclusion

Part B. Discipline studies (18 credit points):

You must complete the following three units (18 credit points):

  • MGO5200 Engagement and talent management 
  • MGO5210 Mental health and wellbeing in the workplace
  • MGO5220 Workforce and employment analytics

Part C. Application studies (6 credit points)

You must complete one elective unit (6 credit points):

  • Elective units to be chosen from the units offered across the Monash online programs as long as you have the prerequisite and there are no restrictions on enrolling in the units.

English language

Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
