Overview

The Master of Global Business and Master of Public Policy offers you a multidisciplinary perspective on global business and public policy. This double degree combines knowledge of the contemporary global environment in which business operates with the practical knowledge and skills you need in policy-making and public sector management. By pursuing this double degree, you will develop into a leader capable of inspiring and driving social and organisational change. You will be equipped with an understanding of the complexity of global issues and what they mean for public policy practitioners, engaging with governments to shape, negotiate, and implement policy agendas.

Course structure

Global Business component48 credit points
You must complete 48 credit points, including all of the requirements in Part A, for the Master of Global Business.
Public Policy component48 credit points
You must complete 48 credit points, including Part A (24 credit points), Part B (12 credit points) and Part D (12 credit points). In Part D you must complete two units (12 points) from the elective lists available in your specialisation, except BTF5905 Global trade governance or MGF5730 International trade policy or MGF5911 Geo-politics and business globalisation as these units have been completed in PART A.a of the Global Business course.

Master of Global Business

The Master of Global Business is structured in two parts, Part A. Mastery knowledge and Part B. Electives. In the double degree course you complete: 

Part A. Mastery knowledge

The focus of these studies is to develop your knowledge and skills as a critical and creative professional who can apply their understanding and knowledge of the global business and politics environments in order to contribute to solutions that address contemporary global issues.

Master of Public Policy

The Master of Public Policy is structured in four parts Part A. Principal study, Part B. Applied study, Part C. Professional enhancement and Part D. Specialist study. In the double degree course you complete: 

Part A. Principal study

These studies will introduce you to public policy theory and practice at an advanced graduate level. Throughout these studies, you will gain practical knowledge and skills that will provide a solid foundation for the specialist studies units undertaken in the program.  

Part B. Applied study 

The focus of these studies is professional and project work, focused locally or globally, that can contribute to a portfolio of professional development. In this part of the program you can also undertake higher level research.

Part D. Specialist study 

The focus of these studies is to develop your expertise in a specialisation: Policy studies or Global studies. These will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed for the capacity to work and communicate across the borders of context or discipline.

Depending upon prior qualifications, students may receive credit for part of the course.

You must complete 96 points, of which 48 points are from the Master of Global Business (including all the requirements in Part A for the single degree) and 48 points from the Master of Public Policy (including Part A (24 credit points), Part B (12 credit points) and Part D (12 credit points). Monash Level A that is:  IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
