Overview
This course is designed for students with a first qualification in an education discipline or related discipline including but not limited to TESOL, counselling, and the social sciences, who wish to pursue learning that will generate new knowledge and understanding through educational research. This course orientates you to educational research and provides you with an understanding of educational research methodologies and research design. You will apply this understanding through the design and implementation of a research project which will demonstrate your capacity to undertake and communicate research synthesis, analysis and evaluation.

The course consists of two units which will orient you to educational research, or education related areas such as TESOL, counselling and the social sciences. Your project will provide you with an understanding of educational research approaches and methodologies. You will apply this understanding in the implementation of a research project. It is through this project, leading to a research report of 10,000 words, that you will demonstrate your capacity to undertake and communicate high level research synthesis, analysis and evaluation.

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
Pathways
The Monash English Bridging (MEB) program is offered by Monash College and is designed for students who have met the academic requirements for Monash, but who have narrowly missed the English language requirements. Upon successful completion of the Monash English Bridging program, students can gain direct entry into the course providing the following proficiency level requirements are met:
MEB - Standard (Level A)
Courses requiring an IELTS of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) - 10, 15 or 20 week program

Progression to further studies
Successful completion of this course may provide a pathway to a graduate research degree with the Faculty of Education. Admission to graduate research is available through a competitive selection process, with limited places available. Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee admission.
To be eligible for consideration, you must achieve:
a minimum mark of 80% in each unit of the Graduate Certificate of Educational Research.
If you meet this requirement, you may apply for admission to 0079 Doctor of Philosophy or D8001 Doctor of Philosophy (Education-focused creative work).
Successful completion of this course may also provide a pathway to the following master's coursework degrees, and if admitted, you may be eligible for credit:
