Overview
This course develops your expertise in educational design across all sectors. Throughout the course you will focus on the use of digital technologies to enable learning designs and effective instruction, whether it is in the context of online, blended, or hybrid classes. The course is highly relevant for educators and instructional designers who are seeking to enter into the educational design profession or to build their knowledge in the field. You will explore theoretical and practical models of educational design, content creation, interactive and collaborative learning, as well as assessment and feedback. You will investigate how to effectively implement learning technologies, engage with teams and enter into educational design partnerships. Completion of this course may lead to opportunities of employment as an educational designer in higher education, an instructional or learning designer in the corporate sector, a developer in online education and even a digital learning coach.

The course consists of four units which will develop your expertise in the design and implementation of digitally enabled courses.
This course comprises 24 points structured into four units.
Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated.
You must complete the following units:
• EDF5768 Educational design
• EDF5769 Designing digital content
• EDF5770 Designing for interaction and collaboration
• EDF5772 Innovations in technologies and pedagogical practices
Learning outcomes
These course outcomes are aligned with the Australian Qualifications Framework and Monash Graduate Attributes.
Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

synthesise and apply knowledge of theory, models and strategies applicable to the field of online learning and educational technologies
- 2
critique and improve upon the educational designs of online, blended and hybrid contexts, including interface, structure, values, content, activity and assessment
- 3
discuss and evaluate current and emerging trends in the field and the implications for design
- 4
discuss critically, evaluate and synthesise research literature and contemporary models, forming your own judgements about appropriate educational designs
- 5
communicate clearly an understanding and awareness of debates, challenges and dilemmas in the field.

English language
Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
