Overview

The Master of Industrial Chemical Engineering is designed to fulfil a growing need for professionals with a broad awareness of chemical engineering including new technological advancements in the areas of biological processing, food processing, and replacement/improvement of many existing processes with more energy efficient, advanced membrane technologies. The course complements these state-of-the-art of processing units with a core sequence consisting of advanced approaches to data analysis, process modelling and optimisation, and reaction engineering, which provides you with advanced tools for both new and more traditional areas of the chemical engineering field. This forward-looking course is aimed at giving you a thorough understanding of the necessary fundamental knowledge including computational and statistical analysis and then building on specialist skills so that you can appraise and evaluate solutions to complex problems encountered in chemical engineering.

Course structure

The handbook's description of this structure

The course is structured into two parts: Part A. Advanced expertise and Part B. Industrial chemical core units.

Part A. Advanced expertise
These units are taken within the partner degree at Southeast University Suzhou and recorded as block credit for this course.

Part B. Industrial chemical core units
You will identify, interpret and critically appraise current developments and advanced technologies, and apply this knowledge within the industrial chemical engineering discipline. You will also complete an independent self-guided research project aimed at advancing the body of knowledge in the discipline.

Course progression map

The course progression map provides guidance on unit enrolment for each semester of study.

The course comprises 72 points structured into two parts: Part A. Advanced expertise (24 points) and Part B. Industrial chemical core units (48 points).

Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated

Part A. Advanced expertise (24 points)*

The Advanced expertise units are taken within the partner degree at Southeast University Suzhou and recorded as block credit for this course.

Part B. Industrial chemical core units (48 points)

You must complete:

  • CHE5110 Advanced engineering thermodynamics
  • CHE5881 Advanced reaction engineering
