Overview

The Graduate Certificate of Health Professions Education qualifies individuals to apply principles and theories that inform educational practice in a range of clinical and other relevant contexts to undertake professional and highly skilled work and as a pathway for further learning. This practice-based qualification is suitable for a broad range of health professionals who are, or will be, engaged in the teaching, assessment, evaluation, mentoring and supervision of health professionals in a range of clinical and other contexts.

You will receive 12 credit points of specified credit for elective units for prior studies undertaken at the Monash Institute for Health and Clinical Education (MIHCE) by means of assessed short courses including Assessment in health professions education, Clinical communication: Education, Health Care Education 2.0 - Transforming your teaching for the digital age, Learning conversations: Feedback and debriefing practices in health professions education, Mentoring and supervision, Rural health teaching and learning. NOTE: Not all short courses are offered every semester.

 This course consists of 24 points structured into three units.

This study will provide you with professional teaching and advanced supervisory skills in both clinical and non-clinical environments. It will facilitate the application of principles and theories that inform educational practice and allow for specialism through the choice of elective studies.

The course comprises 24 points structured into three units.

Note: You will receive 12 points of specified credit for elective units for prior studies undertaken at the Monash Institute for Health and Clinical Education (MIHCE) by means of assessed short courses.

All units are 6 points unless otherwise stated.

You must complete:

  • HPE5100 Foundations of health professions education (12 points)
  • MAP5601 Assessed short course 1 *
  • MAP5602 Assessed short course 2 *

* Assessed short courses must be chosen from the following list of short courses offered by Monash Institute for Health and Clinical Education (MIHCE):

Entry requirements

English language

Monash minimum: Level C, that is: IELTS (Academic): 7.0 overall (no band lower than 6.5); or Pearson Test of English (Academic):  score of 65 overall with no band lower than 58; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 94 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 24, Listening: 20, Reading: 19 and Speaking: 20; or Equivalent approved English test

Notes for students

This course is not available to international students who are holders of an Australian student visa, for study onshore in Australia. However holders of some other categories of Australian visas living in Australia, and students studying off-campus by distance learning (where this option is available) and living outside of Australia, may be eligible for this course.
