Overview

The Graduate Certificate of Health Professions Education qualifies individuals to apply principles and theories that inform educational practice in a range of clinical and other relevant contexts to undertake professional and highly skilled work and as a pathway for further learning. This practice-based qualification is suitable for a broad range of health professionals who are, or will be, engaged in the teaching, assessment, evaluation, mentoring and supervision of health professionals in a range of clinical and other contexts.

Course structure

You must complete 12 credit points from the approved list of short courses with assessment and the following unit.

- Learning and teaching with simulation
- Quality supervision in health and human services
- Scenario design for simulation-based education
- Learning conversations: Feedback and debriefing practices in clinical simulation
- Assessment in health professions education
- Introduction to education research in the health professions and sciences
The handbook's description of this structure

This course consists of 24 credit points of Health Professions Education undertaken as a combination of units and short courses.

This study will provide you with professional teaching and advanced supervisory skills in both clinical and non-clinical environments. It will facilitate the application of principles and theories that inform educational practice and allow for specialism through the choice of elective studies.

  • Not all short courses are available every semester.
  • The above short courses are not eligible for FEE-HELP.

Course progression map

The course comprises 24 points structured into three units.

Note: You will receive 12 points of specified credit for elective units for prior studies by means of assessed short courses.

All units are 6 points unless otherwise stated.

You must complete:

  • HPE5100 Foundations of health professions education (12 points)
  • Assessed short courses (total of 12 points)

* Assessed short courses must be chosen from the following list of short courses. Please note that not all short courses are offered every semester. Short courses are 6 points unless otherwise stated. The short courses are not eligible for FEE-HELP.

Entry requirements

English language

Monash Level C, that is: IELTS (Academic): 7.0 overall (no band lower than 6.5); or Pearson Test of English (Academic):  score of 65 overall with no band lower than 58; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 94 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 24, Listening: 20, Reading: 19 and Speaking: 20; or Equivalent approved English test
