The course comprises 24 credit points undertaken as a combination of two 6 credit point units, plus two of the following Monash University assessed short courses. Each assessed short course is equivalent to a 6 credit point unit.

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

    Define the legislative and operational framework governing personal injury management.

  2. 2

    Identify the critical issues faced by various approaches to personal injury insurance schemes and identify the strengths and weaknesses of each major approach.

  3. 3

    Distinguish key principles of personal injury management, including scheme design, scheme financing, performance measurement, case management, rehabilitation and return to work.

  4. 4

    Identify the necessary components of an injury management program.

  5. 5

    Analyse contemporary issues in the personal injury industry.

  6. 6

    Describe the historical, social and political context of personal injury in Australian society and appraise recent developments in personal injury policy and practice.

  7. 7

    Generate personal injury management strategies and/or programs, and/or research and apply public health principles and methods, to reduce the impact of personal injury in the community.

Entry requirements

English language

Monash level B, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (with individual band scores of Writing: 6.0, Listening: 6.5, Reading: 6.5 and Speaking: 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic):  score of 58 overall with minimum scores: Writing 50, Listening 58, Reading 58, Speaking 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing 21, Listening 20, Reading 19, Speaking 18; or Equivalent approved English test

Professional accreditation

Completion of the course may allow graduates to register with the Personal Injury Education Foundation (PIEF) as a Certified Personal Injury Professional (CPIP).
