Overview
This graduate certificate provides students with advanced expertise and specialised knowledge in forensic nursing and midwifery. You will investigate contemporary issues in Australian health law and ethics and the role of health professionals in the assessment of cases of physical and sexual assault. You will gain knowledge of the Australian legal system, laws of evidence, the classification of injuries and forensic responsibilities arising from physical injury and sexual assault. You will gain skills in the preparation of a medico-legal report and giving evidence in court proceedings. You will also gain skills in the accurate documentation of injuries, collection of forensic evidence and consideration of complex ethical issues.
This course is suitable for nursing and midwifery graduates interested in developing or enhancing specialist careers in medicolegal issues.
