Overview

The Master of Paramedic Practitioner is designed for registered paramedics who aspire to elevate their clinical practice and contribute significantly to community paramedicine. This course broadens the scope of paramedicine practice, encompassing both urgent and non-urgent care settings as well as primary healthcare environments. In this program, you will deepen your understanding of complex clinical scenarios that align with everyday advanced practitioner challenges. This will enhance your clinical decision-making, critical thinking, and autonomous clinical reasoning abilities. Moreover, the curriculum delves into advanced clinical assessment and prescribing while emphasising the importance of evidence-based practices and research. Consequently, you will emerge as a reflective practitioner who not only elevates your clinical capabilities but also drives positive transformations within your employing organisation, the broader paramedicine profession, and the overarching healthcare system.

You must complete one 6 credit point postgraduate unit chosen in consultation with the course coordinator. The unit can be chosen from any faculty as long as it is relevant to this course, and you meet the required prerequisites, co-requisites and any other restrictions.

The Master of Paramedic Practitioner comprises 72 points structured into two parts: Part A. Core Units and Part B. Elective Unit.

Part A. Core units

These studies will extend your clinical knowledge and practice. In addition, you will advance and broaden your understanding and capacity to conduct research and evaluations as it relates to the advanced practice setting.

Part B. Elective unit

In these studies, you will have the opportunity to gain greater expertise in key areas of your interest through an elective unit to suit your own career interests.

Units are 12 points unless otherwise stated. 

Part A. Core Units (66 points)

You must complete the following units:
• PAR5401 Foundations of advanced paramedic practice
• PAR5320 Community paramedicine 1 
• NUR5208 Therapeutic medication management (Prescribing) 
• NUR5411 Advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning 
• PAR5105 Community paramedicine 2 (6 points)
• PAR5106 Paramedic Practitioner Essentials (0 points)
• MAP5003 Essentials of advanced health care practice 

Part B. Elective Unit (6 points)
You must complete one 6 credit point postgraduate unit chosen in consultation with the course coordinator. The unit can be chosen from any faculty as long as it is relevant to this course, and you meet the required prerequisites, co-requisites and any other restrictions.
