The Master of Global Medicines Development is a joint degree offered by Monash University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This program provides you with a comprehensive understanding of how the discovery, development, and distribution of new medicines unfold on a global scale. In the units, taught collaboratively by academics across the two institutions, you will confront pressing issues such as funding medicines development in developing countries, navigating global drug regulations, and addressing disparities in access to appropriate medicines. By engaging with academics and your peers from around the world, you will develop leadership, data and financial management skills, and the cross-cultural understanding needed to work effectively in diverse teams. The course is structured in three parts: Part A: Core studies; Part B: Specified elective studies; Part C: Professional Practice
Part A. Core studies
This part of the course covers core topics that provide the foundational knowledge in pharmaceutical sciences underpinning the discovery, development and regulation of medicines in a sustainable and socially responsible context. You will also develop leadership, financial and data management, and other related skills to help you to prepare for professional placement, and to effect meaningful change in the global medicines development landscape.
Part B. Specified elective studies
In this part of the course, you will be able to select an elective unit to extend your knowledge in regulatory science, post-marketing or manufacturing and controls.
Part C. Professional practice
In this part of the course, you will undertake a professional placement in the pharmaceutical or related industries, or in a research laboratory, giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills to solve contemporary problems in medicines development of global significance in a workplace setting. To accompany your industry experience and demonstrate mastery of course learning outcomes, you will complete a capstone project, related to the work you complete on your professional placement.
