Overview

The Monash Graduate Certificate of Food Science and Agribusiness is a forward thinking, interdisciplinary program. Central to the course is appreciation of the scale and dependencies of production, processing, distribution and marketing systems with an emphasis on consumer need-driven innovation. This course provides students and professionals with the opportunity to select training in different areas of the food industry, to gain the skills to integrate the latest knowledge and practices into society at different operational and stakeholder levels. Students can choose study in the fundamentals of primary science disciplines involved with food production and human nutrition, and cross-discipline aspects including global trade, consumer perspectives, and future trends. The course is a pathway to a Master of Food Science and Agribusiness (S6004).

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

    Evaluate and integrate knowledge of science, technologies and nutritional impacts surrounding food, and the interdependence of drivers of agribusiness, innovation and food security that affect food supply.

    Evaluate and integrate approaches to problem solving in food science and agribusiness within an area of specialisation

    Demonstrate research, technical and communication skills to analyse and design solutions to problems relevant to food science and agribusiness.

Entry requirements

English language

Monash Level A, that is:  IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test

Progression to further studies

Successful completion of this course will provide a pathway to the Master of Food Science and Agribusiness (S6004). You need to achieve a 50% average in the 24 credit points of studies within the Graduate Certificate to progress to the Masters.
