Overview
This unit will equip you with a keen awareness of and appreciation for the history of research in accounting in your specialist sub-discipline as well as across different domain areas and research traditions. The content can be relatively flexible, but faculty could be invited to identify a series of seminal articles to be used in the unit. Based on the current honours units, the content could be relatively evenly split between financial accounting, management accounting, auditing and accounting information systems.

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

develop knowledge of the seminal articles in accounting research across its many sub-disciplines and how they have established the basis for established and emerging research areas

enhance awareness of the multiple epistemological and ontological perspectives that underpin research in the sub-disciplines of accounting research

evaluate and critique research papers presented in the research seminar series

evaluate the literature, philosophical traditions, methods and problems associated with different sub-disciplines of accounting research

develop effective academic presentation and writing skills through presentation and written analysis and critique of selected recent articles and working papers.

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
