Overview

In this unit, you will explore what characteristics today’s digital media possess, and more importantly, how they affect individuals, society, and industry in the real world. Specifically, you will focus on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of each digital medium and try to find how we can create more “effective” digital contents, which will lead users to a more immersive, enjoyable, and satisfying media experience.

Is being an SNS influencer a good choice? Is a 3D video always superior to a 2D one? Why are people crazy about Artificial Intelligence (AI)? What are the advantages and disadvantages of Augmented Reality (AR) technologies?

In this unit, we review how eminent media scholars have answered these questions.

As a result, you will acquire basic knowledge on both state-of-the-art media technologies and core HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) theories, which will help you adapt and survive in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
