Overview

In this unit you will examine the relation between youth and mobile media, based on an analysis and discussion of media effects. You will explore media effects with regards to direct, social, and cultural effects. These effects are understood in terms of a reshaping of public and private space, flows of power, economic opportunities, and personal agency.

You will study topics such as: the impact of mobile media on political protests; affective mediation; digital public; gender and body image; the commercialisation of online public space; and, convergence between television and mobile media. You will encounter material and case studies from across the world, including Southeast Asia.
