Overview
This unit will provide training in the latest discipline-specific methodologies in philosophical, historical, literary, and cultural studies for students enrolled in the new Master of Arts Research Training. The unit will have separate philosophical, historical, literary, and cultural studies streams. You will be required to nominate one stream only.
In philosophy, students will receive expert training in ways of arguing and evaluating arguments in a selection of the following sub-disciplines: experimental philosophy, ethics, applied ethics, history of philosophy, the continental tradition, non-western philosophy, metaphysics and epistemology, social and political philosophy, and logic.
In historical studies, students will receive expert training in approaches and methodologies in gender, Indigenous, oral, political, social, and cultural history, as well as in archaeology and the history of science and medicine.
Given the variety of fields included in the literary and cultural studies stream, students will be asked to complete a number of modules, not all of which will be required of all students, but which will be selected in conversation with the Unit Coordinator and stream coordinator.
