Overview
This unit will complement APG5690 Applied translation and follows on from APG5874 Global translation and interpreting professional practices. In this unit, students will be exposed to further training in consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting and sight translation/interpretation, as well as theory of Interpreting Studies applied to conference contexts.

Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

explain advanced theoretical aspects of Interpreting Studies and interpretation such as psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, communication and discourse studies;
- 2
provide a fluent, accurate, effective and consecutive interpretation of a complex speech of 10 minutes into the target language;
- 3
provide a fluent, accurate, effective and simultaneous interpretation of a complex speech of 20 minutes into the target language;
- 4
utilise booth techniques and team interaction skills in interpretation;
- 5
utilise sight interpretation skills to interpret text.
Workload and teaching
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
