Indonesian Intermediate 1

ATS2113

Synopsis

You will build on your competency in speaking, writing and reading and aural comprehension by engaging with a sequence of specialised varieties of Indonesian: youth language, Islamic registers and Hip-hop culture. Development and consolidation are structured around a series of reading tasks, complimented by diverse non-written media and structured communicative tasks. Throughout, heightened grammatical competency is developed through reference to relevant sources. You will engage with members of Melbourne’s Indonesian community: assessment tasks encourage you to learn through active participation in community events, and through authentic engagements with native speakers. Through completion of the ‘Knowing Indonesia Through Research’ component, you will develop research skills while simultaneously increasing familiarity of Indonesian history and politics.
