Overview

The unit enables you to record and produce music in digital audio workstation environments. By recording environmental, instrumental and vocal sounds using accessible equipment, you will learn about music production, editing, mixing, and mastering techniques. You will learn fundamental elements of sound and audio theory to expand your ongoing engagement with electronic music.

This unit is taught using the Ableton Live software and the course support materials and resources are provided in relation to this software, though concepts taught will be applicable in most digital audio workstations. Students are free to use their preferred free or paid software, but for those new to making music with computers, it is recommended that they use Ableton Live. Ableton provides a reduced paid subscription rate for
students (at approximately $70/semester).
