Overview

The world-wide spread of English has led to the development of new perceptions and practices of the English language, known as world Englishes. Communication in English in the 21st century takes place among speakers of world Englishes. This unit explores the historical background, linguistic features and current transcultural practices among the speakers of Englishes around the world. It also examines the implications of understanding world Englishes for transcultural and transmediated communication.
