Synopsis

The unit develops Indonesian cultural knowledge and language proficiency through a focus on specialised language and culture of Indonesian politics and law. You will explore a range of genres of political communication in writing, spoken discourse and visual cultures: the language of legislation; political speech-making; symbolic repertoires of political parties (logos), and; satirical modes. You will develop awareness of specific political audiences in Indonesia and the specific linguistic and symbolic forms appropriate for them. You will develop Indonesia-specific research skills by exploring politics in Indonesia through the unit’s ‘Knowing Indonesia Through Research’ component.
