Overview

This unit explores how performance creates, shapes and changes cultures. Students learn key concepts in performance studies, including ritual, everyday performance, and performativity. Students will also learn the key practices in performance studies including performance ethnography and human rights performance. Students will gain experience in applying these concepts and practices to create original performance works to understand and address contemporary social problems. By the end of the unit students will have produced an original performance work ready to considered for development and production in a festival or community performance context.
