Overview
This elective unit provides students with the opportunity to develop their French language speaking, listening, reading and writing competencies and their knowledge of French and Francophone societies through the central theme of fashion. Students will explore a range of historical, philosophical, cultural, political and environmental questions that all position fashion and taste as key vectors for individual and collective expression and freedom. The material used in this unit is drawn from authentic French and/or Francophone contexts with a specific emphasis on literature, film and popular culture. This unit will enable students to better understand the centrality of fashion and its multiple applications throughout the world as well as how their own personal fashion choices can have important impacts in an age of global environmental crisis.
