Synopsis
This elective unit provides you with the opportunity to develop your French language speaking, listening, reading and writing competencies and your knowledge of French and Francophone societies through the central theme of fashion. You will explore a range of historical, philosophical, cultural, political and environmental questions that all position fashion and taste as key vectors for individual and collective expression and freedom. The material used in this unit is drawn from authentic French and/or Francophone contexts with a specific emphasis on literature, film and popular culture. This unit will enable you to better understand the centrality of fashion and its multiple applications throughout the world as well as how your own personal fashion choices can have important impacts in an age of global environmental crisis.
