Climate career bootcamp

Synopsis
Keen to understand your place in the climate transition? Eager to understand how everyone's efforts can come together to formulate impactful climate solutions? This unit seeks to build an understanding of ‘why’ climate change is happening and the associated impacts, ‘what’ potential solutions exist to tackle climate change across sectors and industries, and ‘how’ you can craft your career to be part of the solution.
We'll be exploring the ‘why’ by helping you understand the basics of climate science in an approachable way, including what the difference between adaptation and mitigation is and the relationships between things like the greenhouse effect, global carbon cycles, emissions and global temperatures. You'll also be immersed in ‘What’ the solutions are to climate change — through field visits and workshops you'll learn how to evaluate climate solutions using systems thinking and place-based approaches, understanding what it means to collaborate for change. Specifically, we'll deep dive into specific solutions across energy, built environment, circular economy and nature-based solutions.
This unit is run in collaboration with the newly formed Campus Electrification Lab established by Monash to engage students around the journey to Net Zero on our Australian Campus network. Finally you'll be supported to think about the ‘How’ for you! What might it look like for you to craft a career in climate? How will you tell your story about the impact you can make in the climate transition? All of this and more will be part of this experiential and action-based learning experience.
