Overview
This unit is drawn on the existing and emerging legal and regulatory aspects governing banking and financial sector. You will be introduced to a range of legal issues covering traditional banking, financial advice and sale of financial products, consumer credit, securities and lending, electronic payments, fintech and anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing. This unit will be of interest if you wish to develop a deeper understanding of regulatory aspects in banking and finance sector.

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. The unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
This unit facilitates active learning through a combination of pre-class, in-class and post-class activities. Pre-class activities are designed to equip you to engage better in the in-class activities (seminars) and to provide an enhanced understanding of the context and background of each topic. Therefore, you are encouraged to complete the pre-class activities prior to attending the in-class activities (seminars). In-class activities are facilitated through seminars. The first part of the seminar focuses on discussing the legal principles/concepts and the second part discusses the application of legal principles through problem-based case studies. In-class activities also include group discussions and industry consultation based on weekly topics. Post-class activities are designed to provide you with a comprehensive and practical knowledge on weekly topics through self-study.
