Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:
- 1
Apply statistical theory to problems frequently encountered by civil engineers.
- 2
Analyse and interpret large data sets and present the summary.
- 3
Design and conduct experiments using statistical methods.
- 4
Formulate hypotheses and test them to come to a conclusion.
- 5
Predict random processes through time series analysis.
Workload and teaching
- Practical activities24 hours
- Lectures12 hours
- Teaching approachOnline learning
- Teaching approachCase-based teaching
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 4-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-8 hours independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
Questions will be answered during the weekly synchronous activity. Videos with the material will be placed online and need to be studied before the lecture.
During the practice classes problems will need to be solved.
