Overview
This unit guides the initial stage of your self-directed design project. As the first part of your year-long Honours program, you will be introduced to research through design processes (including relevant concepts, strategies, and methodologies) and challenged to develop advanced creative and practice-based skills particular to your area of design specialisation or practice. Through studio-based self-initiated study, supported by a supervisory team and a peer-to-peer learning environment, you will investigate, identify, define and frame a research question; experiment with and determine appropriate research methodologies; and develop specialist understanding relevant to your project. The unit is designed to support independent enquiry directed towards the development of a viable design research project through appropriate forms of thinking, making, and doing, that establishes a pathway for further research (to be undertaken in the following semester).
