Enrolment rules

COREQUISITE: You must be enrolled in the Master of Geographical Information Science and Technology or by approval of the unit coordinator.

PROHIBITION: EAE5015, EAE5016

PREREQUISITE: You must complete EAE5018, achieve a distinction average (70%) across Masters core units, and pass an interview with the host organisation.

Overview

The unit provides you, if you fulfil the academic requirements, with an opportunity to undertake a project defined by a host organisation with the approval of the unit coordinator. The placement may be an affiliated arrangement where a consultancy or research project is carried out in association with the company and physical location at the company is not required. Host organisations may be from a diverse range of industries and sectors involving the development or use of GIS&T, including government departments, private industry and not-for-profit organisations. You will present the project findings to the host organisation in the format specified by the host organisation, such as a consultation paper, report, commentary, manual, submission or speech. The host organisation provides field supervision, and the faculty provides academic supervision.

The minimum expected workload for the unit is 288 hours over the course of one semester, including project work and 6 hours of two scheduled workshops. One workshop will be scheduled at the beginning of semester for unit induction, and the other at the end of semester for oral presentations.

You will work with a host organisation on a project, in which you apply or further develop GIS&T knowledge and skills. The host organisation provides field supervision, and the faculty provides the academic supervision.

You will engage in work integrated learning by undertaking a project defined by a host organisation, and collaborating with others on the project in a workplace setting.

You will conduct a project with a host organisation, and apply the theory and skills you learned while studying in a professional workplace.
