Advanced power electronics

ECE6156

Synopsis

This unit presents an extensive range of power electronic converter applications with a focus on renewable energy resources integration. The unit starts with modelling of DC/DC and DC/AC converters and then continues to design various voltage/current closed-loop controllers for these converters. The designed closed-loop control systems are then extended to applications of these converters in renewable energy grid integration contexts such as wind and solar resources. Additionally, other advanced applications of power electronic converters such as static compensators, active filters, power factor correctors, energy storage systems, grid forming inverters, etc. are introduced.
