Overview

An introduction to the study of economics from a macroeconomic perspective including the following areas of study: trade in a global village, GDP as National Income and Aggregate Expenditure, savings and investment, unemployment, money and the monetary system, aggregate demand and supply in the short and long run, monetary and fiscal policy.

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    FIRST SEMESTER: analyse the product, money, labour and foreign exchange markets based on economic models

    SECOND SEMESTER: apply economics principles, concepts, tools and theories to explain collective decision-making

    FIRST SEMESTER: develop skills in the application of economic principles to wider social issues

    SECOND SEMESTER: critically assess the effects of government policy and economic shocks on various macroeconomics variables

    FIRST SEMESTER: examine the Asian economy and its operation in an international environment

    SECOND SEMESTER: analyse and illustrate economic information in various ways, including diagrams, tables and graphs
