Synopsis

This unit provides you with the opportunity to experience mathematics as a problem-solving discipline, to explore mathematical knowledge, and to develop an awareness of the importance of positive a disposition towards mathematics. You will participate actively in workshops and reflect on your experiences. Your personal understanding of mathematics will be challenged while you are exploring mathematics for teaching. You will begin to appreciate how young children learn mathematics, and how educators support this learning.  You will investigate resources that model effective approaches to teaching mathematics. In this unit you will build a broad knowledge of teaching materials and to be discerning in their use. The experiences in this unit will enable you to begin to  collect resources that will equip you to teach mathematics with children aged 0-8 years.
