Overview
There are fundamental differences in the way context shapes schooling. Teachers bridging primary, middle years and secondary contexts have particular strengths to offer these sectors but also face potential challenges. This unit introduces you to the nuances of primary, middle years and secondary educational contexts. In particular the unit explores how relationships, learners, approaches to teaching/learning, learning environments, policies and politics change across contexts, and prepares them to be flexible and adaptable practitioners in these varied settings. You will gain insights into learners and theory informed learning within these varied contexts and begin to formulate teaching approaches and philosophies to help become responsive professionals capable of adopting appropriate practices for each context. The unit works in harmony with core units in the first year to provide a particular context for qualifying to work across primary, middle years and secondary contexts.
