Overview
This unit builds upon previous health and physical education discipline and curriculum units studied and prepares you to teach school health education in the senior years (including Health and Human Development and Food Studies). Through an examination of national and international education and health policies and relevant research literature, the unit will begin by taking a critical stance towards health education theory and practice at VCE level insisting that you remain reflexive of your views, experiences and practices as well as the learning needs of diverse senior school learners. The unit will deploy Universal Design for Learning as a lens and pedagogical device for re-thinking learning and teaching in
VCE health education, and consider what might be possible if inclusion was embedded from the start of curriculum planning. In the process you will further develop content knowledge at VCE level in Health and Human Development and Food Studies, thus preparing you for the senior school health education context.
