Overview
This unit prepares specialist teachers of media arts to teach in secondary schools. Drawing on a range of national and international literature, the unit introduces you to past and current debates in media arts education theory and practice. You will collaboratively investigate various justifications for teaching media arts in secondary schools with a focus on Years 7–10. This includes undertaking critical inquiry into the benefits of a range of pedagogical approaches to teaching media arts. Pre-service media arts teachers will examine various approaches to teaching key media studies topics, including representation, narrative, new media and media production. You will demonstrate your knowledge of these topics through creating and evaluating media arts teaching resources, and by creating and implementing individual lessons plans aimed at enhancing successful learning for a diverse range of students. You will be asked to demonstrate the ability to apply national and international curriculum documents in these endeavours.
