Overview

The thesis unit in the Master of Applied Behaviour Analysis (MABA) at Monash University is designed to foster research competence, critical analysis, and evidence-based inquiry in behaviour analysis. Students will carry out their research under the supervision of a doctoral-level core faculty member, following approved methodologies. Students will complete a thesis of no less than 10,000 words. Ethical approval from the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (MUHREC) is required for any study involving human participants. Students must complete a mandatory ethics webinar and quiz before proceeding.

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per teaching period comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study.

Usually, you can expect to engage with:

  • 18 hours over the course of the semester consisting of 12 2-hour group supervision sessions delivered fortnightly, and
  • 6 hours of individual supervision. The group supervision will be led by the unit coordinator and the individual supervision will be delivered by the sessional teaching associate.
  • The remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study for you to complete you individualised research project.
