Synopsis
This unit provides a comprehensive introduction to data visualisation. You will learn how to interpret, evaluate and create visualisations using contemporary visualisation tools. The course begins with the foundational principles of data visualisation, including what makes a visualisation effective and the core design elements. You will be then introduced to the tools needed to create visualisations and will learn how to choose the right visualisations for different types of data. We will explore single-variable and multivariable plots. You will develop data wrangling skills, which are essential for cleaning and preparing datasets, and will engage in iterative processes to refine and improve your visualisations. As the course progresses, we’ll cover visual storytelling and more advanced topics such as visualising uncertainty and missing data. Interactive and animated visualisations will also be covered. This unit emphasises hands-on practice and using real-world applications of data visualisation in business. At the end of the unit you will be equipped to effectively communicate data-driven insights using visualisation in your future careers.
