Overview
This unit is the first stage of a cohesive, multi-unit practice program in which you will join a student-led company and contribute to real projects, products or services. You will begin by exploring the companies, their missions, available roles and ways of working, and by identifying where your developing capabilities, interests and professional goals may best contribute. As part of this process, you will prepare professional application materials, participate in role-selection activities such as interviews or onboarding conversations, and reflect on how you can apply the skills you are learning in your course to authentic company work. Once placed, you will be onboarded into the company and introduced to its structure, expectations, tools, team practices and shared objectives. Professional development activities will introduce ethical practice, responsible technology development, communication, collaboration, project coordination and the social impact of computing work. Through your contribution to the company’s mission, you will begin applying course-relevant capabilities in an authentic practice setting. You will also build an evidence-based portfolio that demonstrates your individual contributions, decisions, feedback, learning and professional growth, supporting the development of your emerging professional identity.
