Overview

This unit introduces you to the fundamentals of preventive health and key principles and frameworks that guide health promotion. You will examine concepts and theories that are used to promote health at the population level, including strategies to empower individuals and communities and create supportive environments for health.

Topics examined include determinants of health, levels of action and action areas, partnerships, collaboration and capacity building, and considerations for sustainability. You will also be introduced to planning and evaluating in health promotion. Throughout the unit, local and international case studies will be used to demonstrate key learnings. By the completion of the Unit, you will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of health promotion's key concepts, values and methods and their application to current health priorities.
