Overview

This unit introduces you to the fundamentals of preventive health and key principles and frameworks that guide health promotion. You will examine concepts and theories that are used to promote health at the population level in addition to how all sectors including those outside of health can contribute to wellbeing. Topics examined include determinants of health, health education, supportive environments, community action, public policy, systems thinking and sustainability. Throughout the unit, local and international case studies will be used to demonstrate key learnings. By the completion of the Unit, you will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of health promotion's key concepts, values and methods and their application to current health priorities.
