Overview
This Unit examines the individual employment relationship under the contract of employment and the rights and duties that arise under contract and from the National employment Standards in the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). You will study the principles, rights and remedies in termination of employment, including protection from unfair dismissal and other general protections under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), as well as statutory protection from discrimination at work. You will examine the legal distinction between employment and other work arrangements and the implications for workers and employers of the distinction.

Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

- 2Identify and critically examine rights and obligations arising under statute & the common law relating to employees and other workers more generally.
- 3Research and apply the relevant laws to problem solving scenarios.
- 4Critically evaluate the efficacy of the law of employment and other forms of worker arrangements at law and convincingly state the need for changes to the law.
- 5Contribute to individual and collaborative knowledge building, with a clear sense of how these observations may be adapted to future learning through reflective practice which is driven by honesty and clear purpose.
