Overview
This unit investigates Online Dispute Resolution (ODR), 'the application of information and communications technology to the prevention, management, and resolution of disputes' (Katsh and Rule, 2016). Taking an applied and interdisciplinary approach, the unit explores:
- the emergence of ODR, the technologies involved and the contexts in which they are used (including online court and tribunal processes)
- the relationship between ODR and ADR
- ODR’s impact on the work of lawyers and legal institutions
- the regulation and governance of ODR system design and operation, and
- evaluation of ODR, including practical approaches for assessing the performance of ODR systems and online courts and tribunal processes
