Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:
- 1
Identify engineering technologies, processes, materials and artefacts.
- 2
Select and apply appropriate protocols to ensure safety and environmental protection.
- 3
Use a range of fundamental technologies to construct engineering artefacts.
- 4
Design and construct an artefact, using computer-aided design (CAD), rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing.
Workload and teaching
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 4-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-8 hours independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. If independent study during mid-semester break, SWOTVAC and exam periods are included, the total workload can exceed the minimum expected workload.
NOTE: This unit is commonly taught in block mode (a single 5-hour workshop class each week) and these may be scheduled to finish as late as 10pm. Please contact your campus unit coordinator for more details.
