Overview

In this unit, you will be introduced to the fundamentals for analysing airborne and waterborne acoustic problems. You will focus on the principles of wave propagation in air and in a water environment, and assess and identify the impact of airborne and waterborne noise from the perspectives of occupational health and environmental protection.

Learning outcomes

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Calculate basic noise measurement quantities.

    Explain the concepts of scattering sound waves.

    Understand the characteristics of noise sources and sound transduction.

    Combine the concepts of noise source, noise path and noise measurement to examine the impact of a given noise source on its environment.
