Organisations: people, purpose and structure
MGF5960
Synopsis
The unit will provide a foundation from which to explore the broad nature of organisations and the function of management in relation to its people, purpose and structure. You will critically explore organisations from a multi-level organisational perspective to develop your understanding and appreciation of current debates and challenges in relation to managing organisations. The unit will commence with an overview of an organisation's human resources and its role in achieving its strategic objectives. The function of managers in achieving strategic goals will also be analysed including the manager's role in guiding the development of the internal environment and structure in order to creatively respond to the complexities of its external environment. Understanding how to ethically, and sustainably, construct, lead and mobilise a diverse workforce in a globally complex world is an important requirement of the modern manager.
